landscape Lighting benefitsYear-round Outdoor Living
Everyone who lives in North Georgia knows the weather fluctuates and can be a "little" unpredictable. Adding landscape lighting in your outdoor living space (pergolas, patios, firepits, sitting walls, retaining walls, etc.) allows you to enjoy wonderful spring and fall temperatures even if it's getting dark at 5:30 P.M. Why spend the time and money on outdoor living if you can't use it after dark? Landscape lighting allows you to more fully utilize your landscape. Safety Landscape lighting provides peace of mind on those summer nights when the kids are running around after dark, or when your neighbors are over for a fall bonfire. Security It's common knowledge that light is a great home security measure. Your landscape lighting could make a criminal rethink visiting your property. Beauty Of course, after all the practical reasons for landscape lighting is the beauty it can provide. You can highlight the beauty of your trees, flowers, pools, stonework, house, and outdoor living. Which type of lighting is best?Solar, low-voltage, and line-voltage all have their pros and cons, but since line-voltage is not practical or cost effective for most clients we stick to solar and low-voltage.
Solar is convenient, but it really isn't as high quality as low-voltage. We find that most homeowners who go for low-voltage lighting are happy that they did. Although low-voltage is a more expensive investment, it is much more powerful and reliable than solar lighting. For a great outline of all the differences between solar, low-voltage, and line-voltage lighting, checkout this article that Home Depot has produced. |
Installing Landscape Lighting
Planning
Planning for landscape lighting is important, and it begins with identifying what areas in your landscape should be lighted. Do you want your house to be lighted? What about any trees in your front or back yard? Where will the transformer be installed? Are there any paths that should be lit? These are just a few of the questions that must be asked in preparing for your landscape lighting upgrade! For info on landscape design check out this page.
Installing the Transformer
The project begins by installing the transformer (indoor or outdoor) into an outlet. It's as simple as mounting the transformer and plugging it in.
Running the Wire
Each light must be connected to wire with greased wire connectors (waterproof). Then, the wire is connected in to the transformer to power the light.
Setting the Lights
Every light is firmly secured into the ground and angled appropriately.
Setting up The Timing
It can be as simple as plugging in a timer and setting the times for power on/power off. Or, we can install a device that will detect sunlight, allowing lights to turn on when its dark outside and turn off as the sun rises.

Pricing
Transformer
Buying a cheap transformer is not in the best interest of each homeowner. We only install transformers that are built to last. The amount of lighting needed will transform the model, and thus cost, of the transformer. That being said, most transformers cost around $350 installed.
Wire
Wire is inexpensive, we charge around $1 per linear foot for wire plus the labor to bury it.
Lights
Path lights are generally around $150 per light installed
Bullet lights range from $150-$250 per light installed
