common drainage problems
#1 - Downspouts
When downspouts are not routed into underground drain pipe, they often cause problems. Water pouring from the downspout can wash out the area where it is dumped, and often that water becomes standing water.
#2 - Standing Water
When yards are not graded correctly, low spots and obstructed areas can collect water that does not drain. This standing water is annoying, can cause damage, and can quickly turn in to a soft mud-pit.
# 3 - Erosion
In Georgia, where hills and drop-offs are common, water can erode away turf, dirt, ground-cover, and even some plants. This can cause structural problems with foundations and hardscapes and make landscapes less usable.
Whatever the problem, drainage solutions are frustrating and damaging to your property. Fixing them correctly ensures that you can enjoy your property and have peace of mind.

Routing Downspouts
Routing downspouts through a drain line is a simple fix for pesky downspouts. We attach downspout connectors to drain pipe from each downspout. Then we bury the line to an appropriate location. French Drains French drains are one of the most effective drainage solutions for a variety of problems. However, they are often misunderstood both by homeowners and contractors. Please refer to this page's illustration on French drains for a more thorough understanding. Grading Water that is running towards a house, low spots, and other water problems are often caused by a poor grade. Adjusting or re-grading an area on your property is often the simplest and most effective solution. Plant Material Areas that are eroding can often be held in place with plants. A common example includes using junipers on hillsides, but there are a plethora of scenarios in which plants can be used to slow down and divert water while holding dirt in place. Dry Creek Beds Often, we dig, or utilize a natural dry creek, to collect water and channel it to the end of the dry creek. River rock or Rip-rap rock is installed in and along the banks of the dry creek to keep the water from turning into mud, protect from wash out, and for a great looking creek bed. Fabric is installed before rocks are added. Drain Boxes 9x9 and 12x12 drain boxes are great solutions to drain water. For this application drain boxes are installed level with the ground (probably in a low spot), and drain pipe is run at a slightly downward angle to an appropriate location. Flo-well Drains When there is no appropriate location to send your water, why not put it deep underground? These large drums set well below the surface in a bed of gravel. Water that drains into these wells is allowed to seep out into the surrounding dirt, below the surface. Here is a flo-well drain that Home Depot sells. |
